What a Fungi!
A One-On-One with a Magic Mushroom
LL: Thank you for sitting down with me. It is truly an honor to have such an esteemed guest as my first interview.
PM: No Lloyd, the honor is mine. To be part of your journey in self-exploration, self-expression, all while shedding your ego to reconnect with the divine and discovering your Self has truly been a pleasure.
LL: Woah…that almost made you sound like a guru.
PM: Guru does mean teacher.
LL: Well, I have a long way to go, and while I feel I’m making progress by leaps and bounds, with every answer there seems to be two more questions that arise.
PM: That’s a great way to look at it! With each answer, a new mystery unfolds, getting you closer and closer to solving the case! Perspective is key.
LL: How do you mean?
PM: Well, you and most humans, are on a quest to discovery. To discover themselves, not only who they are as a species but also as an individual. They often wonder what purpose they have, both as a collective and their own individual destinies. And it’s while on those journeys to understanding that you both find, and often lose, your Self.
LL: You make it seem like it’s fun and easy.
PM: It is Lloyd. It’s you humans that make it hard.
LL: How so?
PM: Most walk around barely holding on. They’re doing their very best every day, but they have no idea for what end. Sure! They go to work, pay their bills, take care of their kids, their partners, themselves, cook, clean, love, laugh, cry, get angry, live and die. But it’s the lack of purpose or a longing for more that makes people beg for understanding of who they are and why they are here.
LL: That’s heavy. What role do you play in all this?
PM: I’m just an organism that offers a key to introspection or divine connection. I am the catalyst that helps you see the real you. Whether you need to peer into your own ugliness to relearn empathy or to see the inner godlike beauty you hold within; whatever you need on your journey at that time, I offer a path to help discover a deeper meaning and connection to not only everything around you, but to yourself. And for those fortunate enough, I can offer a mystical experience. A touch with divinity.
LL: That in and of itself sounds amazing.
PM: The Divine always is, Lloyd.
LL: I’ve read various books concerning psychedelics from Timothy Leary’s “The Psychedelic Experience” to Micheal Pollan’s “How to Change Your Mind”. Do you feel these books are an accurate representation of the Magic Mushroom experience?
PM: Absolutely! And the reason is that while many may share similar experiences, no experience is the same; even when it is concerning the same individual. I provide what is needed at the time; nothing more, nothing less. The stories of individual experiences contained in those books, and many others, are accurate experiences that happened to each individual. They are true happenings that should not be disregarded.
LL: As we gain more and more knowledge concerning what is you do to us while also attempting to gain a better understanding of human consciousness, I can’t help but ask this question:
“Do you feel psychedelics are for everyone or should they only be used by the elite, as in, those of use with a higher IQ or better social standing and education?”
PM: I am available for those that wish to use my services to explore.
LL: Do you think you should be legal for everyone to use?
PM: I believe I, and my kind, were here long before your laws. So, with respect to legality, it doesn’t apply. I, too, serve a purpose. That purpose is for you humans to use me, should they choose, to explore a deeper consciousness. Whether you choose to just recreationally explore and unwind, delve deep into your own Ego, or attempt to sample a higher connection with the universe, that choice is yours.
LL: There is a risk associated with you, wouldn’t you agree?
PM: No.
LL: What about “bad trips”?
PM: This has always been such an ironic, and often jovial term. There is no such thing as a “bad trip”. This a human attempt to categorize, define, and control that which they cannot. A struggle of your own Ego against my attempts to connect you with deeper meaning and perspective. The catch-22 is that a “bad trip” is often far more healing than any “good trip”.
LL: How so?
PM: Humans are often thrust into their destiny based on tragedy. Something good always comes from something bad. This is the nature of things. Many humans also feel they are in the depths of Hell, and once they get but a glimpse of what real Hell can be, they often come out of their “bad trip” changed forever in a positive manner. More empathetic toward not only other humans, but themselves.
LL: When you put it that way, it does seem to ease the perspective of “bad trip”.
PM: That’s just it: Perspective. If you’ve learned to ride a bike as many of you have, I have noticed most of you continuously fall quite often and repeatedly. Often these falls cause you physical and emotional damage. Yet, most continue on. Looking past the pain, whether physical or emotional. A little pain to reach a desired goal almost makes the goal more glorifying…from a certain perspective.
LL: As we humans continue to evolve. And by that, I mean with technology, our understanding of the world, and our bodies, do you feel it is important for us to reconnect with nature and our inner selves?
PM: More so than ever, Lloyd. And to be frank, I see an awakening. As I mentioned earlier, something good comes from something bad. With the onset of two wars, the birth of AI, viruses, economic hardships, and overall tension run amok on this Earth-all of which can be seen on the internet by the way, I feel many of you humans are saying to yourself, “Hey, this is not working. How do we change this?” And it truly starts with perspective.
LL: By truly perceiving and understanding ourselves?
PM: Yes! But to also truly share and understand your fellow human’s perspective and understanding. To bond not just with a nod and agreement, but truly feel connectively. Once you are able to see with someone else’s eyes, you instill empathy. And empathy can solve wars!
LL: Can you solve wars?
PM: War is a human problem. I offer perspective.
LL: Can perspective solve war?
PM: Perspective is needed to gain empathy and understanding. You have to ask why someone is doing what they’re doing. To see from their view. Once witnessed, you gain empathy and eventually, understanding. I think that is what will offer a solution to your war problem.
LL: Understanding?
PM: Empathy.
LL: Well Psil, can I call ya Psil?
PM: You may not.
LL: Oh!
PM: Relax Lloyd…don’t take yourself, or life, so seriously!
LL: Right on. That said, I have to wrap this blog up. So, I guess a great way to do so would be to ask, do you have any questions for me?
PM: Only one, Lloyd.
LL: Fire away!
PM: With all your knowledge, writing, photography, and learning, in conjunction with your advocacy toward educating those about my kind and our benefits, why have you yet to take a journey with me?
LL: I wasn’t planning on answering that question.
PM: I provide what is needed.
LL: Fear. Not that I’ll die or get sick or go insane. I know and have learned this is government propaganda. A sense of control, ironically enough. Rather, it’s fear of my Self. To learn that maybe I’m not only uglier than I think or perceive…
PM: …well done, Lloyd…
LL: …which would hurt enough, but to also experience how divine I am…which by my knowledge, is so profound. I’m not sure I’m ready for that experience.
PM: Who is? When you saw a roller coaster for the first time in person, was it not daunting? You were probably scared. An inner sense of fear, yes? Awe stuck, perhaps?
LL: Without doubt!
PM: But, you knew there would be no harm. Well, anything can happen, sure. That’s life! That IS life. ANTHING can happen, Lloyd. Perspective. Your perceiving fear….yet I perceive excitement, wonder, and a thirst for knowledge. And just like that roller coaster, I can offer fun, thrills, maybe even a little scare, but you’ll remember your experience. Forever.
